Robertsson Returns to Action for Thunderbirds
The St. Louis Blues prospect forward returns to action after sustaining a lower-body injury
The Springfield Thunderbirds are getting back forward prospect, Simon Robertsson ahead of Friday night’s tilt against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Robertsson, 21, has missed the last four games due to a lower-body injury. The Swedish forward has appeared in just four games with the Thunderbirds this season after initially getting injured during the Blues’ training camp.
With only a handful of professional games in North America under his belt, it is difficult to gauge his long-term upside at this time. During the 2023-24 season, Robertsson primarily played in the SHL with Skellefteå AIK, appearing in 27 games scoring two goals and four points. He was primarily used as a 13th forward on the team with limited ice time as AIK had a deep squad that finished third in regular season standings with a 33-15 record, and winning the SHL league championship.
When Robertsson was loaned to HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s AHL equivalent, with Brynäs IF, he scored six goals and nine points in 12 games.
The offensive upside is there for Robertsson should his development go according to projections. He remains a middle-six winger with upside that has a wicked shot and strong on the forecheck. To find time and success in the NHL, he may need to continue to develop further as a penalty-killing forward that can chip in offensively when the time comes.
