Rumor: Marcus Sylvegård Time in North America Be Coming to an End
St. Louis Blues Prospect Sylvegård Could Return to Växjö
St. Louis Blues prospect Marcus Sylvegård has been an offensive force for the Springfield Thunderbirds this season, but his time in North America could be winding down.

According to Johan Svensson of Expressen, 25, is rumored to be heading back to Sweden after this season to join the Växjö Lakers of the SHL. While there has been no official announcement or signing, Expressen reports that Växjö owns Sylvegård’s European rights until the end of this season, making the move a natural fit should he decide to leave.
Why a Return to Europe Makes Sense
Sylvegård could see several upsides to returning to Europe, including the potential for better financial compensation and a prominent role on a top-tier team like Växjö. The Lakers are among the SHL’s most competitive organizations, and Sylvegård would likely slot into a key position where he can log significant minutes.
Meanwhile, the Blues currently face a logjam of wingers at both the NHL and AHL levels, with more prospects on the way like St. Louis’ 2022 1st round pick, Jimmy Snuggerud and 2023 1st round pick, Dalibor Dvorsky in addition to players like Zachary Bolduc who is also competing for ice time as well. Despite scoring 10 goals 21 points in 35 games this season, his first season in North America, a path to the NHL roster was becoming an increasingly long shot. A return to Sweden would allow him to continue developing his game in a familiar and highly competitive environment while securing a more stable role.
Is a Return to Europe Likely?
If Sylvegård does decide to return, the process will not be immediate. His contract with the Blues would need to be terminated via unconditional waivers offering other clubs the chance to claim him. The Swede could very well desire to play at the pro level and offer higher financial compensation. While it is unclear what the future holds for him, the rumor seems to be gaining momentum.
